Safeguarding our democracy from foreign interference
In the fall of 2016, it came to light that Russian actors hacked U.S. political organizations and leaked documents with the intention of altering the outcome of the election. In response to this, Congressman Denny Heck joined his colleagues in calling for an independent commission to investigate and report on the methods, motivation, and results of the Russian hacking.
Congressman Heck believes that one of Congress’s top priorities should be demanding answers about this scandal and holding individuals accountable for their actions.
Congressman Heck was appointed to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which he has jurisdiction over issues that concern the intelligence community and national security matters. After the latest revelations about communications with Russian officials, Congressman Heck signed a letter with seven of his colleagues on the committee calling on General Michael Flynn, a former White House National Security Advisor, to testify before the committee regarding his communications with Russian government officials. It is important to gather the facts to fully understand these encounters in order to keep America safe and our democracy strong.
As more details about this situation come to light, Congressman Heck will work with his colleagues on both sides of the aisle to learn more about what the House can do to prevent future attacks that threaten our democracy.
