Statement on the Proposed Use of Military Force Against the Government of Syria

Sep 1, 2013
Press Release

Over the past few days I've spoken with and been contacted by many residents of the South Puget Sound regarding the proposed use of military force against the government of Syria. My statement on this matter is below. Please let me know your thoughts by clicking the "Email Me" button on the "Contact" menu.

Statement on the Proposed Use of Military Force Against the Government of Syria

"The use of chemical weapons against innocent children and other civilians in attacks in Syria last month was an abhorrent tragedy. This weekend, President Obama announced Congress would soon vote on whether or not the United States should take military action in response to these attacks. I believe holding this vote is the right thing to do.

I will approach this vote with prayerful consideration and deliberation. There are a number of steps I will be taking before making my final decision. First, I will carefully review the intelligence the Administration will present to Members of Congress. We cannot engage in military action based on faulty intelligence, the painful lesson of the War in Iraq. Second, I will carefully consider the provisions of the specific proposal that is presented to Congress. As of now, nothing concrete has been presented. Third, and most importantly, I will listen to the opinions and viewpoints of the people of the 10th Congressional District. I believe this decision should not be made just in Washington, D.C."
