At St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, Lena Forsyth was known for being a dedicated nurse diabetes educator. At the age of 55, she was in the prime of her career, hard at work teaching patients and their families how to treat their condition and change their lifestyle. She had a loving husband, Tony, and treasured time with her family. She was involved in the Steilacoom community and was a friendly face at meetings and events.
And then the news dropped on her and her family like a stack of bricks: young-onset Alzheimer’s.
The home equity conversion mortgage (HECM) program has seen monumental changes over the past few years, but these changes are leading the reverse mortgage down the right track, one housing leader told members of Congress on Thursday.
“As a result of these changes, the independent actuary projects that the next five years of reverse mortgage originations will be profitable for FHA, which will reduce the shortfall FHA faces on this business line,” said Julia Gordon, director of housing and consumer finance for the nonpartisan think tank Center for American Progress.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Denny Heck (D-Wash.) announced this week that four organizations located in the 10th Congressional District of Washington received a total of $11.7 million in AmeriCorps funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Funding supports 1,069 AmeriCorps members working on disaster response, conservation projects, literacy tutoring, and veteran transition assistance.
